De Grouster – Grouster sloop rowers deliver top performance in Amsterdam
GROU – After the good results in the autumn competition for sloop rowing, the Grouster sloop rowers had the Amsterdam Canal Race on Saturday 9 October.
Early in the morning the trailer with the Wetterfretter behind the bus and through the polder to Amsterdam. The fog would lift later to make way for a beautiful sunny autumn day with a lovely temperature, in short ideal rowing weather. With start number 50, the Wetterfretter was in the middle of the grid to start, with the experience of later years that viewed with some fear because the possibility of congestion in the small canals lurks which can be disastrous for a good ranking .
Now the Grachtenrace in Amsterdam is more than 25.5 km long with two young lettuce growers Rinse and Jan immediately the question was how they would digest this tough race. All fear of congestion in the canals turned out to be unfounded and Jan and Rinse also managed very well, good Wiebedie flawless effect. For example, the Amstel, the IJ, the Herengracht and Leidsegracht were taken at a speed of between 8.5-9 km per hour. After three hours of hard pulling, the finish was reached next to the Olympic Stadium and all rowers could enjoy a recovery drink.
And was waiting for the award ceremony, because no matter how well it goes, you never know what the competition has done of course. Now the Amsterdam canal race, after the Harlingen-Terschelling race, is known as the largest and the toughest race due to the distance and 85 bridges where the entire rowing field is visible, so there is always full competition from all over the country.
Watt difference (which amounts to 35 seconds), perhaps the greatest achievement in the history of the GRSV after the 5th place from 2019 in Amsterdam and in the same year the MPM races. Due to this fantastic performance, after a win in Zwartsluis, Langweer and the third place in Makkum, the win in the FSN autumn competition in the men’s 1st class can no longer escape the Grouster men.
On October 23, the Liwwarder round is still on the program, also a canal race and a great opportunity for everyone to watch a race up close. The race can be followed from various terraces in the city center. The GRSV will start with all three and hope for a good result.
