Félix Sánchez, Qatar’s coach, regretted that the strategy for the game against Portugal did not get a result (0-3), but said that the meeting was good for his team, from the country that hosts the 2022 World Cup, to gain experience.
– In the previous game against Portugal, Qatar had two players sent off. Was this time more cautious?
– The two games against Portugal were very difficult and we couldn’t manage to stop their players. Given Portugal’s greatest possession, we couldn’t find a way to maintain and create counterattacks. It was tough and we didn’t make it, we didn’t have any chances. Playing at this level is difficult for us, but we have to keep working as we know it’s very difficult at this level.
– Is it important for World Cup host Qatar to play twice as closely against Portugal?
– For us it is very important to play these games in Europe. Portugal is one of the best teams at European and world level and for our players, and also for the national team, it’s good to have this experience, to understand what we need to improve, to be able to compete at a higher level. It was very good for us, obviously. We just know that we have a lot of work to do to improve, competing with teams like these. Being better and better is our goal in the coming times.
