Pisa, 9 October 2021 – The Municipality of Pisa has decided to allocate a property owned by the municipality to the Italian Red Cross – Committee of Pisa: the structure will be used by the association to manage the reception of Afghan citizens arriving in the provincial territory following of the emergency from the takeover of the Taliban. The property, in particular, will be used to host a family unit. This is what is foreseen by a resolution approved yesterday by the Executive.
“The Municipality of Pisa – declares Deputy Mayor Raffaella Bonsangue – has involved in recent years international collaborations with humanitarian organizations and relevant cooperation projects, such as the” A drop of milk “project to help the children of the city of Aleppo, Syria, in Kurdistan for the construction of a drinking water well and in Namibia and Nigeria in favor of women and children victims of violence. The images that have come to us from Afghanistan are dramatic. Pisa, which has always been a city of solidarity, will do its part in welcoming women, men and children from Afghanistan, forced to leave their country, following the serious situation that arose with the takeover of power by the Taliban regime . It is essential to give concrete help to those who have collaborated with Italian institutions in recent years, to those who have stood up for the defense of fundamental freedoms, civil rights, in search of a different, better future ”.
In recent weeks the Prefecture of Pisa had sent a note inviting local institutions to identify suitable accommodation facilities for Afghan citizens who in recent years have collaborated with the Armed Forces, with the Italian Embassy and with the ‘Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in Afghanistan. The property identified by the Municipality was granted to the association on free loan for a duration commensurate with the duration of the humanitarian crisis, up to a maximum of 2 years. It is possible to extend the concession for another two years, subject to evaluation by the Municipal Administration, in consideration of the continuing need for accommodation. The Italian Red Cross – Committee of Pisa will have to pay for all utilities relating to the property and maintenance costs for its enjoyment, including charges and accessories, as well as all registration fees for the concession deed. On the other hand, he will not have to bear the costs of extraordinary maintenance, given the limited duration of the concession.
