Panic and dead cat in fire in Geneva
The alarm was triggered at 10:27 p.m., as Nicolas Millot, spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Service (SIS), told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Saturday. As a result, 25 panicked people called.
Four minutes later, the fire engine arrived at the scene, from ten other vehicles with 37 firefighters. At the scene of the incident, flames and smoke poured into the inner courtyard of the building. Several people were hanging in the windows screaming. There was a risk that they would fall out of the windows.
According to Millot, the emergency services carried out four rescue operations in the courtyard. The rescuers who were called up finally take care of seven people on site, two were brought to the hospital. One of the injured was the tenant of the burned down apartment. She was able to free herself from the apartment, but her cat died.
At 11:45 p.m. the fire was brought under control. The apartment burned down completely. In order to facilitate the use of the rescue service, the quarter was cordoned off. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
