Bordeaux has not been doing well in recent seasons. Since the departure of the M6 Group, American investors have succeeded each other (GACP Sports and King Street), but the club still does not manage to regain the top of Ligue 1. In July 2021, American investors sold the club to Gérard Lopez, also former president of LOSC. The latter arrived with a new management team, including a technical director (Admar Lopes) and a new coach (Vladimir Petkovic).
A change whose effects are not yet noticeable. The new owner is in the spotlight to restore the image of the club with the scapular passed very close to a liquidation in the summer. Concerned about the future of Bordeaux, Alain Giresse proposed his recovery plan. He recommends returning to the values of the club. “There is a need to come back to a big family. It still exists. The club has local and regional representation, ”he advised.
“In Bordeaux, football works in a Girondine way. Unfortunately, it has deteriorated in recent years, but nothing has ended. We must find that gradually. It’s an overall job: on a sporting, relational level. We must give this dimension to the club, ”said the former FCGB player. “Today Bordeaux has lost popularity. This is the result of recent years, which must now be repaid and carried out again, ”he concluded.
Who is Alain Giresse?
Alain Giresse (69 years old) was born in Langoiran (in Gironde) and was trained in Bordeaux. He defended the Bordeaux colors between 1970 and 1986, that is to say 16 consecutive seasons. He has played more than 500 matches for the Navy and White. The former midfielder was champion of France in 1984 and in 1985, winner of the Coupe de France in 1986, winner of the Coupe des Alpes in 1980, vice-champion of France in 1983 with the Girondins. He is therefore an emblematic figure of the FCGB. Having become a coach, he led Toulouse FC, PSG and African teams (Gabon, Mali, Senegal and Tunisia).
