In Lyon, you can live in Roman times for a weekend
It is a fun event that the Lugdunum museum in Lyon will offer this weekend.
On the sidelines of its new exhibition EnQuête de Pouvoir, from Rome to Lugdunum, the Gallo-Roman museum has imagined a unique festival, in collaboration with several associations specializing in large-scale historical reconstruction.
From Saturday 9 am, and until Sunday evening, Septime Severe, winner of the battle of Lugdunum, and his army will pitch their tents on the lawn of the Odeon in Fourvière.
Many activities will be offered free of charge to the public (on presentation of a valid health pass, editor’s note). The opportunity to step back in time to discover the daily life of a military camp, from setting up tents to the most emblematic ceremonies, including armament management and combat training.
The program :
Saturday October 9
• 9 am – 7 pm: animation of the camps
• 11am: arrival of Emperor Septimius Severus with his escort and greeting to the soldiers
• 3 p.m. – 3:30 p.m .: imperial worship ceremony
• 4 p.m. – 4:45 p.m .: presentation of the Roman army
• 5 p.m. – 5:30 p.m .: equestrian demonstrations
• 7 p.m. – 9 p.m .: night veil at the camp
Sunday October 10
• 9 am – 6 pm: animation of the camps, training of the cavalry
• 11 am: lustratio ceremony (purification and blessing of military ensigns and symbols of power)
• 4 p.m. – 4:45 p.m .: presentation of the Roman army
• 5 p.m. – 5:30 p.m .: equestrian demonstrations
