Land scenes of demonstrators protesting against the obligation to green pass by attempting to attack the buildings of the institutions are images that scar an entire country. But above all they offend the victims of this pandemic, the citizens who have fallen ill and still bear the signs and consequences of the virus. For one day Rome, the capital of Italy, was hostage to a few hundred violent people who managed to aggregate thousands of people. The response of the police appeared inadequate, weak compared to the threat. The assault on the headquarters of the CGIL an intolerable action, the demonstration that the protest has evidently passed the mark. Also because it makes visible the effects of degeneration that can stress.
For days the political forces – including those who support the Draghi government – have been facing each other over the obligation of a green pass. And in some cases they seem to foment or even increase the discontent of some citizens who reject the vaccine. Deciding not to immunize a right, at least until it is deemed necessary to impose it with a law. But in this situation of health emergency, the right of those who do not want to get sick must prevail and for this reason they have already undergone the double dose, ready – if necessary – for the third.
the only way as has been clarified several times by scientists, to really get out that has gripped us all for almost two years. The only remedy to return to work safely, to socialize, to reopen activities, to support the economy. The only chance we have to take back our life, the normal one.
Yesterday’s demonstration exceeded the alert level. Other mobilizations are already announced for the next few days and for this it is necessary to gear up. Develop a safety device that makes it possible to express dissent, but isolate the violent. It is the politicians who have to take it upon themselves by making clear provisions to the police who are in the streets and pay the highest price when the situation degenerates. But above all by lowering the tone of a controversy that too often turns into bitter opposition, if not even into blackmail over the government.
We are at the last mile, Prime Minister Draghi did not hesitate to say that we are at the end of the pandemic. the crucial phase for what we are leaving behind, but in particular for what is to come. the moment of recovery where there cannot and must not be room for those who have as their primary objective the assault on power, the delegitimization of the institutions, the collapse. There is no more room for ambiguities and false promises.
We all come out of the pandemic together, each doing their part. Showing a sense of responsibility that goes far beyond the interests of part or a search for consensus that – when the emergency is really over – will reveal itself for what it really is: ephemeral and harmful.
