After Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) resigned as Federal Chancellor, the Salzburg state parties also spoke up. Governor Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP) spoke of a “selfless step”, SPÖ boss David Egger, on the other hand, sees no resignation, “but a farce”.
“With his move from the government to the position of club chairman, Sebastian Kurz guarantees the continued existence of a government capable of action. I thank him for this selfless step and pay tribute to him for it at most. It enables respect in Austria out of reasons of state. I am stable that the government work with the future Federal Chancellor Alexander will work extremely well for the good of our country, “said Wilfried Haslauer in a broadcast.

Resignation for Egger “a farce”
“Sebastian Kurz could have done just one thing right, and that would have been a complete withdrawal from politics. Instead, the ÖVP party chairman takes refuge as a club chairman and shadow chancellor in immunity as a member of the National Council. That is a mockery of our constitutional state. If that Greens play along, they make themselves contributors to the biggest scandal of the Second Republic, “said Salzburg’s SPÖ boss David Egger in a broadcast about the latest events. “In Germany a politician with such prejudices would have resigned three days ago. At the ÖVP all political morality seems to be lost. The People’s Party is permanently damaging Austria’s reputation.”
