In a few months, private radar cars can flash motorists throughout mainland France. Consumer associations denounce this measure, which they qualify as “facade road safety”.
Watch out for flashes! It will soon be more complicated to detect speed cameras on the road. The cause: private radars will be deployed throughout the metropolitan territory in 2022. Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Île-de-France and Occitanie, specifies a budget forecast document. These four regions were not included in the mechanism planned by an interministerial road safety committee in 2015.
A nonsense for consumer associations, starting with 40 million motorists. “These radars driven by private companies, it’s nonsense,” explains Pierre Chasseray, general delegate of the association. For him, certain cases will not be covered by these vehicles: “someone [qui] driving dead drunk on the road, overtaking on white stripes “will not be able to be arrested by” the private company, which, with its pretty radar toy, will see the situation, but it will not be able to challenge the driver. “
“Facade road safety”
“This facade road safety is in fact not at all”, criticizes the general delegate. With the deployment of these radar cars, “there is a link between, on the one hand, the radar which symbolizes money and the companies which also symbolize money”. Before saying that “if the French do not want, do not believe in this model of road safety, we cannot put it in place”.
