Born a hundred years ago, Yves Montand is a child of Marseille, a city he has never forgotten.
Born in Italy, Yves Montand moved with his family to France, fleeing fascism. They settled in Marseille in 1923. A this period, the young man’s name is Ivo Livi. From the age of 11, Ivo worked on the docks and as a hairdresser. But despite his fame, Yves Montand has never forgotten his roots and his hometown.
Marseille has not forgotten Yves Montand either. In the castle of the Buzine, an exhibition is for him devoted. Many treasures are available, such as his diary. In his diary, he mentioned his doubts and anxieties before his first concerts. It was in a legendary Marseille hall, the Alcazar, which is now closed, that Yves Montand enjoyed his first successes. Noticed by an impresario in this room, Yves Montand then left Marseille, in search of his glorious destiny.
