These 25 major projects to come in Luxembourg
What will be the major public projects for the coming years? Those over 40 million euros have a specific financing law. Those between 10 and 40 million must be presented to the public works committee of the Chamber of Deputies. What François Bausch (déi Gréng), Minister of Public Works did, Thursday, October 7. He now attends the agreement of the deputies to be able to launch the studies. The projects must be discussed within the framework of an orientation debate, which accompanies them held on the State budget, in December.
In the meantime, here is the list of the 25 projects:
Those of the Public Buildings Administration
– The redevelopment of the Place de la Constitution in the capital, which will be reserved for pedestrians and soft mobility. The parking lot at the foot of the Gëlle Fra should thus disappear. This is a joint project with the City of Luxembourg.
– The construction of a business and management school in Kirchberg on the same site with the University of Luxembourg.
– The construction of a new European school on the Geesseknäppchen campus, near the Conservatory, for the lower cycle.
– The overall redevelopment of this campus, with, for example, bus platforms and cycle paths.
– The construction of accommodation facilities for applicants for international protection at the Iergärtchen near Findel, with common areas (dining rooms, activity rooms, psychosocial services). The goal is to get the emergency accommodation facility (Shuk) out of Kirchberg.
– The construction of a new closed structure for rejected applicants for international protection, near Findel. It should accommodate people with specific needs such as people with children.
– The renovation of the Ulysse Center for homeless people in Bonnevoie, in order to allow them to settle in the longer term.
– The redevelopment of the Clairefontaine car park in Luxembourg-city, which is not public, but used by State personnel. In particular, it will be equipped with electrical terminals.
– The renovation of the Center for the development of the skills of close relatives in sight in Bertrange.
– The construction of an additional placement structure for minors near the Juvenile Security Unit (Unisec) in Dreiborn.
– The renovation of the buildings of the Cadastre and Topography Administration, avenue Gaston Diderich in Luxembourg.
– The construction of an administrative building for the police in Redange.
– And a new police station in Mersch. These projects are in addition to that of the doubling of the Police City in Findel.
– The search for land for a new customs center near a motorway. The current buildings on the P + R Sud in Gasperich / Howald are doomed to disappear due to a neighborhood project.
– The renovation of the building occupied by the Ministry of the Family, avenue Emile Reuter, in Luxembourg.
– Renovation of the building of the former National Health Laboratory at Verlorenkost for the Sites and Monuments Service.
Those of the Bridges and Roads
– The construction of a cycle footbridge which spans the Bettembourg station and rests various national cycle paths.
– The construction of a bridge over the Märtesgronn in Kirchberg to create a link between Langfur and Kuebebierg. In the long term, the tram should pass through this corridor. Preliminary studies have already started because the bridge should be located above a Natura 2000 protected area, a network of natural sites of great heritage value for their flora and fauna in the European Union.
– Various measures, on the N12 road crossing Bridel, to reduce the speed or the number of vehicles.
– Removal of the level crossing at Moutfort, for the road part.
– The redevelopment of the section of the road from Esch (N4) to Luxembourg-city, to prepare for the arrival of the tram between Hollerich and the Cloche d’Or, even if the tram should not arrive in the south before 2023.
– The redevelopment of the N13 (Dräikantonsstrooss) between Hellange, Frisange and Aspelt, in order to create more space for cyclists.
– The construction of a cycle path, between Clervaux, Cinqfontaines and Troisvierges, which will run alongside the rails to avoid too many levels. A footbridge will also cross the rails.
Those of CFL
– The construction of a pedestrian bridge at Bettembourg station. It is part of a set of renovations launched in 2017.
– The renewal of the tracks between Berchem and Luxembourg in the summer of 2023. This does not only concern the rails, but the entire structure.
– The plan to remove the Moutfort level crossing also concerns the CFLs, which will take care of the rail part.
What about the 20 projects presented last year?
The deputies do not really judge the projects on the merits, explain the Chamber of Deputies. The validation procedure makes it possible above all to “keep a budgetary view on these projects” since they do not have a specific financing law.
Thus, all of those presented last year at the same period were validated in November 2020. It is unlikely that this is not the case for the 25 new ones.
