Raizes Teatro, company on stage in Vienna at the EU Forum on Fundamental Rights: ilSicilia.it
The company champion of human rights Raise Theater, founded by Alessandro Ienzi, lawyer of the Court of Palermo, does not stop and continues his unstoppable growth by bringing his voice abroad. Completely self-produced, the relevant theatrical reality has just concluded its national tour in support of Patrick Zaki, four appointments in the squares of Palermo, Naples, Rome and Bologna. But the look is already in Vienna, where the company was invited to the Fundamental Rights Forum 2021 of the European Union, which will take place on 11 and 12 October in the Austrian capital at the Vienna City Hall in the presence of the highest representatives of the UN, the European Union, Facebook and UEFA.
On 12 October, at the Vienna Rathaus, during the most important European event on human rights, organized by Fundamental Rights Agency, Alza Teatro will stage “Free yourself”, the performance dedicated to the human rights challenges that the European Union faces and is supported by Avant-Garde Lawyers, NGOs based in Paris, which offers legal assistance to artists deprived of freedom of expression.
The Forum is a hybrid event that will offer 145 different sessions between workshops and debates in which to discuss the most pressing challenges in the field of human rights. The sessions, as well as in Vienna, Warsaw will take place in Strasbourg, Geneva, Ljubljana and Oslo and will be broadcast online. More than 500 speakers from around the world will be present to discuss what needs to be done to promote and protect human rights in the EU.
An integral part of the Forum are ten of live art performances by musicians, poets, comedians and artists, which will highlight the unique connection between art and human rights. In this context, the invitation is given to Raizes Teatro, which has taken on the responsibility of telling what makes us ashamed of human beings with internationally recognized results.
The Austrian president was also present in Vienna Alexander Van der Bellen, the secretary general of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, the Vice-President for Values and Transparency of the European Commission Vera Věra Jourová and the mayor and governor of Vienna Michael Ludwig, which will open the forum along with Michael O’Flaherty, Director of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights and Chair of the Forum.

The closing ceremony will make use of contributions from The Dunja Mijatovic, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe; Eamon Gilmore, European Union Special Representative for Human Rights; Agnès Callamard, Secretary General, Amnesty International; Emily O’Reilly, European Ombudsman; Christos Giakoumopoulos, Director General of Human Rights and the Rule of Law of the Council of Europe.
“The union between art and human rights is a unique exploration that allows you to deepen the dynamics of the human soul and the interactions, between human beings and with the world. – Ienzi explains -. Raizes is today one of the greatest European artistic expressions for depth and integration, for courage and composition. Very young performers in their twenties will be staged in Vienna, some who have come to Italy as unaccompanied minors. We will share the Forum with top personalities from the UN, the EU, Facebook and UEFA. We will tell an important and difficult story“.
