Portugal: Parliament unanimously approved “vote of regret” for the death of Father Vítor Feytor Pinto
Deputies highlight “important legacy” for involvement in health and civil society issues
Lisbon, 08/2021 (Ecclesia) – The Portuguese Assembly of the Republic unanimously approved today a vote of regret for the death of Father Vítor Feytor Pinto, former head of the National Pastoral Health Commission, who died at the age of 89, this Wednesday .
“The figurehead of the Catholic Church in Portugal, which leaves an important legacy for its involvement in issues related to health and civil society”, point out the deputies.
The Portuguese Parliament, which “expresses its deep regret” at the death of Father Vítor Feytor Pinto, affirms that “it is above all the human dimension” of the priest that “will last in the memory of all” that they could deprive with him.
“The way it was never common for his erudition to prevent him from being humble, for his responsibilities to prevent him from having time for those who most needed his friendly word, are testaments to the greatness of his spirit,” the text adds.
In the document, in which the parliamentarians recall the life course of Father Vítor Feytor Pinto and the functions and services in which he participates, it is pointed out that in everyone’s memory “his intellectual stature and humanist and solidary dimension will remain”, regardless of ideological inclinations, “Which became evident”.
In this context, evokes its “strong involvement” in issues of health and civil society, namely “in defense of the National Health Service and its fundamental and universal value, as well as in the fight against the drama of drug addiction”.
The Assembly of the Republic, gathered in Plenary Session, expresses its deep regret for the death of Father Vítor Feytor Pinto, conveying to his Family and Friends, as well as to the Catholic Church, the most heartfelt condolences. ”
Father Vítor Feytor Pinto died at the age of 89, at dawn on Wednesday, October 6, at Hospital da Luz, in Lisbon.
Father Vítor Feytor Pinto was born in Coimbra in 1932; At the age of 10, he entered the seminary and was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Guarda, on July 10, 1955, which he served for ten years, before coming to the Patriarchate of Lisbon.
