Not only the HC Pustertal got five goals conceded on Friday evening, the same happened to HC Bozen, who conceded a surprising 2: 5 bankruptcy against Innsbruck in the ice wave in front of almost 1900 spectators (season record). The Bolzano players should be able to get over the loss of points this early in the season, but the appearance could give coach Doug Mason pause for thought.
For over 60 minutes, the foxes acted disoriented, prone to errors and never really as a compact unit. As a result, Innsbruck was formally invited to score goals. The sharks did not allow themselves to be bitten twice, repeatedly established numerical superiority at key points on the ice and used every gap that appeared to give the foxes the coup de grace.
Coach Mason, who had to make do with only two full pairs of defenders (Trivellato was absent while injured), tried to still hand over the game with small line changes, but that evening was not really helping either Justin Fazio in goal or the HCB . Now it’s time to clean your mouth and off to Villach! There it is for the foxes on Sunday to retrieve the performance with which they were able to convince in the league and in the CHL against Salzburg.
The highlights of the game
- The HCB is caught freezing in the 8th minute: Innsbruck takes the lead with his first shot on goal, a backhander by Tim McGauley.
- Bolzano plays erratic and sloppy, Innsbruck, on the other hand, is goal-oriented and callous. Die episode? A double strike from Mike Huntebrinker and Martin Ulmer within 50 seconds – 0: 3.
- Rene Swette, regular backup of the sharks, with a parade that should make it to every year in review. He fishes the target after a Frank shot from a very short distance – spectacularly out of the air.
- The hard rubber comes through Matt Maione and Mike Halmo to Dustin Gazley, who lifts it under the bar. It is the overdue first Bolzano Gate.
- Right now, when hope is sprouting in the ice wave, the Foxes are digging the grave themselves. A collective lethargy enables the guests to counterattack, which Dario Winkler closes at 1: 4.
- Although the advanced Nick Plastino can shorten it again, it is too late for a successful race to catch up. In the final minute, Innsbruck’s Antonin Boruta scores 2: 5 in the empty goal.
