‘I do miss those times. sure’
Brian Brobbey still has good memories of Ajax. The striker looks together with The Telegraph back to his period in Amsterdam, and then specifically to his period on De Toekomst. The striker is currently having a difficult period at RB Leipzig, where he makes few minutes.
‘I had a very nice time at Ajax, a very nice time. Along with my friends, Ryan Gravenberch and Kenneth Taylor. I do miss those times. For sure’, the spat looks back. ‘We were taken by van, with the bag to the club, having fun and training. Play football on weekends. That was the most important thing of the week. You also knew you were always playing. That was nice.’
Brobbey is not always playing at the moment. At RB Leipzig, Brobbey came in three times in the Bundesliga while he was allowed to come in twice in the Champions League. For him, he has to tolerate André Silva and Yussuf Poulsen. The former was after the arrival of Brobbey for 23 million euros. ‘Sometimes I think: maybe I’ll just experience this, this experience. Actually, I don’t want that, but yes, if it has to go like this, then it has to go like this, isn’t it’, says the striker.
It was not an easy start for Brobbey in Germany. “Well, of course I came in injured. With a hamstring injury I had suffered before the European Championship with the Dutch Juniors. Quite a tough one actually, I was out for almost nine weeks.’ The striker has recovered and is match fit. “I think I trained well and hard. I’ve been through all of them, came in a few times. But I’m still waiting for my starting spot’
