The second day of the MTBO2021 competition started this Friday morning, in Alcaravela, in the municipality of Sardoal, with the Middle Distance race.
Marisa Costa, which represents the BTT Loulé / Elvis, covered a 12 km course with a difference of 230 meters in a time of 33.54 minutes, leaving the Czech Lucie Nedomlelova in second place. The young woman from Tomar had already won two Silver medals in European championships and one Bronze medal in the Elite World Cup.
The big revelation of the championships was Artur Mendonça, having achieved the Silver medal in the youth class, 16 seconds behind the Russian Yaroslav Shvedov, winner of the Gold.
In the current edition of MTBO, the Gold is no longer a debut for Portugal, which in turn won two medals at the World Championship of Veterans in Mountain Bike Orienteering, last Thursday, in Santarém. Belonging to the Leiria Center Orienteering Club, the oribttistas Daniel Marques and Susana Pontes won the respective levels.
The race continued at Campo Militar de Santa Margarida, in Constância, on a day when Denmark was also victorious, with eight medals: seven in veterans and one in male juniors.
