Boom of travelers on trains in the province of Pisa: an increase of 63%
4.2 million travelers have chosen regional trains for their provision in Tuscany this summer, thanks also to the new services introduced by Trenitalia (FS Italiane Group) to support sustainable tourism and the Tuscan economy.
Among the tourist destinations reached directly by train, the most popular this summer were Viareggio with about 150 thousand visitors – which recorded an increase of 25% more passengers on board compared to the previous year – followed by Livorno with 140,000 visitors (+ 25%) Cecina 43,000 visitors (+ 24%), Grosseto 35,000 (+ 22%) , Follonica 34 thousand (+ 20%), Campiglia Marittima 26 thousand (+ 20%).
Great success also for the cities of art: Florence is one of the most popular with over 1 million people (+ 43% passengers), Pisa with 423,000 (+ 63%), Lucca about 122,000 (+ 61%), Pistoia about 100,000 (+ 20%), Arezzo 95,000 (+ 34%) and Siena 76,000 (+ 63%).
The new Etruschi Linea service dedicated to an increase in regional services has brought this property along the stations of the Tyrrhenian coast between Pisa and Grosseto over 350 thousand people.
The new train + bus / nava proposals (with a single ticket) also met with the appreciation of travelers: Elba Link to reach the ports of Portoferraio, Rio Marina and Cavo, and Firenze Air Link to reach the Amerigo Vespucci airport from Florence Santa Maria Novella station.
The transport of bicycles by train was also particularly popular during the past season. The new Rock trains in service on the Tuscan lines have a space with bicycle parking spaces equipped with electrical sockets to recharge the new generation models.
Among the commercial offers with tariffs, activated during the summer, to encourage the use of the train leaving the private car at home with enormous benefits for the environment, the most popular was the Plus 3. A promotion that allowed for travel at the fixed price of 29 euros (15 euros for children between 4 and 12 years) for 3 days with an unlimited number of trips on all regional trains.
