Amsterdam bans fireworks on New Year’s Eve
The planning in advance already that the lighting of fireworks in the city is banned. To make the ban possible, the General Local Regulation (APV) has now been amended.
Buying is possible
a majority of Amsterdam residents have had enough of the nuisance caused by fireworks’ and are a corresponding ‘proponent of a ban on parting off consumer fireworks’. It is still possible to buy fireworks at the prepared points of sale.
This year, the municipality is organizing a New Year’s Eve celebration on Museumplein with a fireworks show, a musical program and a light and laser show. There must also be a professional fireworks show in every district. Furthermore, a subsidy is available for New Year’s celebrations of Amsterdammers themselves.
Corona measures
All plans remain dependent on the corona measures that apply during New Year’s Eve, the municipality says. “Together with the designed services, we are looking for a good balance between sufficient supply and manageability. Ten additional institutions in the city can also be placed on the capacity of the services.”
At the turn of the year, a national ban on parting and selling fireworks was in force due to the corona measures.
