When the works for southern Florence, Campo di Marte and Piagge
Next stop San Marco. Next terminus in Bagno a Ripoli. Further on, the section for Campo di Marte – Rovezzano and the one for Le Piagge. The new lines of the Florence tramway they warm up the engines, with the first tranche of works expected at the beginning of 2022. It starts from the historic center and then tackles the construction sites of the T3 and line 4.
Meanwhile, news arrives on the technology of the new convoys, which thanks to a battery system (details here) will be able to travel without the need for poles and wires on stretches up to 2 kilometers long. This will make it possible to eliminate the area line in some parts of the route, such as the ring road boulevards and the streets of Gavinana, which are touched by the future line 3 of the Florence – Bagno a Ripoli tramway. The point on the next developments of the Florentine transitional system was made on the occasion of the visit of the mayor Dario Nardella to the Hitachi Rail plant where the new vehicles will be built.
The first construction sites to start: the tramway to the historic center and Piazza San Marco
The Municipality is drawing up a rough schedule of the works. According to this plan, the first to leave will be, early 2022, the work for the so-called variant to the historic center, the “piece” of tramway that will start from the Fortress connecting to line 1 and which will then continue in viale Lavagnini, will touch piazza della Libertà to go to via Cavour and finally to terminus of Piazza San Marco. On the way back it will pass from the route via Giorgio La Pira – via la Marmora (here stops and map of the line to the historic center).
The entry into operation of this shod arm is planned by Christmas 2023. Meanwhile, the hypothesis of the route of the tramway to the heart of the center of Florence, a few steps from the Duomo, has ended up in the drawer. Last year it was proposed to bring the tracks from Piazza San Marco to Palazzo Medici Riccardi, at the beginning of Via Cavour. This extension is not currently part of the plans.
When the start of the works for line 3 of the tramway: South Florence, Bagno a Ripoli, Campo di Marte
A September 2022 it is expected the start of work on line 3 of the tramway (or rather the 3.2.1, as it is called by the technicians) which will go from Piazza della Libertà to the terminus of Bathroom in Ripoli passing from south Florence (here the route and the stops). The goal is to speed the convoys loaded with passengers between the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026.
This path will subsequently lengthen thanks to the works for line 3 “bis” (line 3.2.2), which from Piazza della Libertà will head along Viale Don Minzoni towards Campo di Marte, the stadium and finally arrive at the Rovezzano terminus (here the draft of the project with stops and map). The first workers, in this case, will go into action by the end of 2023, if the time schedule is respected, for i construction sites in Christmas 2026, when the new Artemio Franchi will also be ready.
Work on line 4 of the Florence – Le Piagge tramway
at the mid 2023 the long-awaited construction sites for line 4, Florence – Le Piagge should also start, a path that will develop between Door to Prato and the populous district to the north-west of the city, largely exploiting the existing railway section. The end of the works is set 2 years and 4 months later.
So here is a summary of when it is expected, at the moment, the beginning of the works for the new lines of the Florence tramway.
- Fortezza – San Marco line (variant to the historic center): construction sites start in early 2022, in service by Christmas 2023
