Two people arrested for trying to travel to Portugal with cocaine
A woman who was trying to board to Portugal with more than seven kilos of cocaine in her baggage was detained at Belo Horizonte International Airport, in Brazil, the Brazilian Federal Police (PF) announced this Thursday.
According to the authority, the arrest occurred last weekend, and the authority chose not to reveal the nationality of the passenger, only that she was 31 years old.
“It was necessary a baggage from the flight to Lisbon, which was opened in the presence of the ticket that dispatched it. More than seven kg of cocaine were found in the suitcase in several tablets,” said the PF in a statement.
On Monday, but this time at Fortaleza Airport, the PF seized another four kilos of cocaine in the luggage of another passenger, of Colombian nationality, who also intended to travel to the Portuguese capital.
“The action took place when the suspect was inspected by the PF. The drug was hidden in the structure of the prisoner’s suitcase and shoes,” explained the authority. The man was indicted for international drug trafficking, a crime that carries a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
Despite not having its own production of cocaine, Brazil is one of the main points of passage for drugs from other Latin American countries, destined for Europe, and Portugal has become a gateway for narcotics to the European continent.
