Toulouse: what are the new features of the municipality’s “Swimming pool plan”?
Launched in 2017 and endowed with 30 million euros until 2026, the Toulouse swimming pool plan is entering a new phase. A new Nordic basin will be created at the Toulouse-Lautrec swimming pool, and another will be transformed at Chapou. Pech David’s swimming pool is going to be renovated.
Swimming pools municipal French – Toulouse is no exception to the rule – were often built in the 1970s. They are therefore reaching an advanced age, and must undergo renovation work. To cope with this large-scale project, the city of Toulouse launched its Swimming Pool Plan in 2017. With 30 million euros over more than eight years, it provides for the renovation of almost all pools of the city, and the creation of nearly 900 m² of additional water surface.
Alban-Minville has reopened after long months of work
The first phase of the Swimming Pool Plan saw in particular the renovation of the Léo-Lagrange swimming pool (city center), u a first phase of work in Chapou (Amidonniers). At the Bellevue pool (Rangueil), an outdoor pool has been transformed into a so-called “Nordic” pool, heated all year round. Finally, the Alban-Minville (Bellefontaine) swimming pool has been completely renovated, for an amount of 4.4 million euros. Un play area for children and a spa relaxation area have been created. The swimming pool reopened on September 6, several months after an opening cut off by the health crisis. “It’s a real satisfaction, this equipment in the heart of Grand Mirail was eagerly awaited “, noted Jean-Luc Moudenc. Of the 75 measures of this “Swimming pool plan” announced in 2017, “29 have been implemented, 32 are in progress, 12 remain to be carried out”, welcomed the mayor of Toulouse.
A 50 m heated outdoor pool will be built in Toulouse-Lautrec (Minimes)

Finally, Iswimming pool Chapou (Amidonniers) will be transformed into a Nordic basin, accessible all year round.
The so-called Nordic heated outdoor pools, the only ones open during the health crisis
“The health crisis gave us a reason after the event, since the only two basins that remained open were the northern basins, Bellevue and Castex. Inked two new pools next year, we are right. And we are responding to a request from swimmers, ”emphasizes Laurence Arribagé, sports assistant. Bellevue and Castex recorded 22,000 admissions in 86 days opening, during the health crisis in 2020 and 2021.
