The facts took place more than a year ago, but, when he speaks about them, Pierre Chasseuriaud still has his voice that trembles a little. While in the car with three friends, on the Barcelona alleys, a Toulouse, the 25-year-old witnessed a serious traffic accident.
A young woman dies
Around 2 a.m. on July 10, 2020, a motorcycle with two passengers collided with a plane tree, on this alley which runs along the Brienne canal. Pierre, who comes home from the evening with his friends, arrives 30 seconds after the accident.
“We secured the scene, called for help. We quickly realized that the young woman who was on the bike had died, ”says Pierre. “The young man was in cardio-respiratory arrest. “
Trained in first aid at school
Luckily, Pierre knows first aid procedures, which he learned in college and high school and in his training as a dentist. “I gave him a cardiac massage while waiting for help,” explains Pierre Chasseuriaud. When the Samu arrived, the doctors told me that it was really his last breath. “
Pierre’s heart massage therefore saved the young biker, who was rushed to the Purpan University Hospital. “I have heard from him since, I know he has no after-effects,” says the 25-year-old dentist. But he must undergo a long rehabilitation. “
Decorated alongside the security forces
From this evening, Pierre Chasseuriaud keeps in mind some rather disturbing images of the accident. “I believe that it is essential to be taken care of and to have a psychological follow-up when you live this kind of choice. And then of course I am convinced of the importance of first aid training. ”
For this act of rescue, Pierre Chasseuriaud received, Wednesday October 6, 2021, a medal from the hands of the prefect of Haute-Garonne. A distinction for act of courage and dedication awarded during a ceremony which took place in the courtyard of the prefecture. At his side some civilians, but also gendarmes, firefighters and police, all decorated for their actions.
Police officers injured on mission, firefighters mobilized in Mirepoix …
The six police officers injured during a follow-up race which occurred on Saturday, October 2, 2021, in Saint-Orens-de-Gameville, were rewarded. But also firefighters, like those mobilized during the collapse of the Mirepoix bridge.
“These decorations reward your merit, your dedication, your courage, underlined Etienne Guyot, prefect of Haute-Garonne, addressing the recipients. You have the recognition of France. “
68 people, civilians and security forces, were rewarded during this ceremony, with medals of honor for acts of courage and dedication or internal security medals.
