The modernization of the railways between Kladno and Prague will begin next year. There will also be a turn to the airport – ČT24 – Czech Television

Sugar Mizzy October 7, 2021

The modernization of the railways has been talked about for more than twenty years. The current is single-track and non-electrified. That should change now, the builders will primarily expand from one to two tracks and electrify it, which should speed up the journey to Prague, where many Kladno residents commute to work. According to Jiří Svoboda, General Manager of the Railway Administration, the transformation of the connection between Kladno and Prague via Prague Airport is a project of the decade.

“As part of the construction, one railway crossing will be left on Františka Kloseho Street. Wolkerova Street is also a big topic for us. We are dealing with property settlement, we have to buy some land there in order to be able to do an level crossing, I believe that we will succeed, “said Petr Hofhanzl, Director of the Construction Administration West of the Railway Administration.

Parking lots will be key

Over five kilometers of tracks will be modernized. The Kladno-Kladno Ostrovec tender also includes the construction of a car park for three hundred cars, barrier-free access, new platforms and more. The catchment car parks are considered crucial by the municipalities of the surrounding municipalities. “We called it the salami method, in the sense that it will be a combination of the old route with the addition of a new route,” said Jiří Svoboda. The project also includes the reconstruction of the station building at the Kladno station, which will be given a more dignified form, Svoboda added. The builders are also modifying the buildings at the stop in Ostrovec.

From the largest city in Central Bohemia and the surrounding villages, over sixteen thousand people travel to the metropolis every day. The train journey from Kladno to Masaryk railway station now takes almost forty minutes, in eight years it should be less than half an hour.

By train to the airport terminal

There will be a total of ten separate buildings between Prague and Kladno; in 2022, for example, the modernization of the line between Kladno and Prague-Ruzina is to begin. In the next two years, the renovation of the Prague-Veleslavín – Prague-Ruzyně line section is to come. A new Prague-Veleslavín railway station will also be built. The current line between Prague-Dejvice and Prague-Veleslavín stations will be replaced by a tunnel between 2025 and 2029. The Prague-Dejvice station will be underground after the modernization. Work between Prague-Bubny and the new Prague-Výstaviště stop is planned for the years 2022 to 2024. The modernization and completion of the Prague-Masaryk Railway Station is scheduled to begin next year.

The construction of a new line in the section Prague-Ruzyně and Prague-Václav Havel Airport is to begin in 2024. A new Dlouhá Míle transfer terminal with a car park will also be included. In the same year, a separate new building of the Prague-Václav Havel Airport station will be built. Passengers will get directly to both airport terminals.
