Alpha, a Guinean student at the University of Mirail in Toulouse, in audiovisual cinema license, is threatened with expulsion from French territory. For good reason, the prefecture refused to grant him his asylum request and does not respond to his requests for a residence permit. On October 6, his hearing took place at the Administrative Tribunal of Toulouse.
Alpha is also a young committed, mobilized for the Right to Housing, a person “Very involved in the Toulouse associative fabric” as pointed out by his lawyer, Me Laure Galinon. “I also come to give”, testifies Alpha before the Administrative Court.
Faced with this obligation to leave French territory (OQTF), the Le Poing Levé collective launched a petition, relayed by several student organizations from Mirail. Alpha has encountered a great surge of solidarity, at the time of this article’s publication, more than 10,500 people have already signed the petition which requires that his enrollment in university be accompanied by a residence permit.
This outpouring of solidarity also materialized in the street, with a rally in front of the Administrative Tribunal of Toulouse, this Wednesday, October 6, during its hearing. This gathering brought together dozens of people, students from the University of Mirail but also members of the RESF, signatories of the petition and an opposition elected from the Toulouse town hall.

A high school student who knows Alpha spoke during the rally: “If I am here it is because for Alpha it is a question of life or death to stay in France”.
If Alpha returns to Guinea Conakry, his life is at stake. In fact, this country is today in a very unstable situation. After the putsch against President Alpha Condé by the military in September 2021, Alpha (a student of the Jean Jaurès University) would risk his life to return there, because he took part in demonstrations against the power in place. It is therefore his life that is at stake behind this OQTF.
Following the hearing, the administrative tribunal’s decision will be rendered in ten days. In the meantime, more than ever, there is still time to signatory of the online petition against Alpha’s eviction and to make our demands heard for the cancellation of its OQTF and more in general the right of movement and installation for all and the opening of borders. The balance of power in the face of the arbitrary decision of the French state is essential for Alpha and all students without a residence permit, it is now the amplifier!
