Hlávek Bridge: Another repair awaits him
“Hlavka Bridge it had been a shame for quite some time and the drivers had been waiting for years for the new surface. The ride along the second busiest bridge in Prague and the important connections between Nové Město, Karlín and Holešovice will finally be no longer like a meadow. ” said Deputy Mayor Adam Scheinherr (Prague Sobě).
Road workers are paving an area of 3350 square meters. They completely dismantle the paving, level out the unevenness in the bottom layer and replace the original granite cubes. Sewer drains will also be replaced. In September this year, TSK states that conservationists opposed the replacement of paving stones with an asphalt surface, and that the work would be technically more complex.
“Drivers will be minimally affected by the repair, two lanes will be preserved and the repaired lane will be overcome on the tram body,” we will mention Lišková below. The repair is planned for December 12 this year, after which work for the winter will be interrupted and will continue until the next year in advance.
History of the bridge
The listed Hlávkův most composed of several parts is the 13th bridge from the south of Prague and is used for road and tram transport. The reinforced concrete bridge was built in two stages during the years 1909 to 1912 and was opened on February 6, 1912. It was the most expanded in the years 1958 to 1962. Since its inception, it has not been renamed. Almost 70,000 cars pass it every day.
Prague has had problems with the condition of bridges for a long time. At the beginning of December 2017, the footbridge between Imperial Island and Troy fell. Four people were injured in the accident, and the city opened a new footbridge on the original site. Last year, TSK started the repair of the Barrandov Bridge and the repair of the Libeň Bridge is planned for a longer period of time. The Palacký Bridge is also in poor condition. In addition, the municipality is operating the construction of the Dvorecký Bridge between Podolí and Prague 5, which should start at the beginning of next year. There is also talk of a new Rohan Bridge, which could connect Karlín and Holešovice.
