For the first time, Ukraine has nominated a candidate for the post of UN Committee against Torture
For the first time in history, Ukraine has nominated its candidate for the post of member of the United Confidentiality Committee against Torture, a human rights activist Oleksandra Matviychuk.
About it on Facebook announced Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzheparova.
“Together with Yevhenia Filipenko (Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN in Geneva – ed.) presented for the diplomatic corps our beautiful Oleksandra Matviychuk, a candidate from Ukraine for the position of members of the UN Committee against Torture. This is our first in the history of the candidacy, “Dzheparova said.
This is a very important step for Ukraine, as Ukrainian citizens are being tortured in the occupied Russian territory, she stressed.

Candidates from 11 countries are applying for the position in the committee. A total of five diplomats will be elected.
Oleksandra Matviychuk is the author and co-author of a number of reports, including:
- “Price of Freedom” / “Price of Freedom” – report about crimes against peaceful protesters during the events on the Maidan;
- “28 Kremlin Hostages” / “28 Kremlin Hostages” – about Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia and the temporarily occupied Crimea;
- “Peninsula of Fear: Chronicle of Occupation and Violation of Human Rights in Crimea” / “Peninsula of Fear: Chronicle of Occupation and Violation of Human Rights in Crimea”;
- “Those who survived hell” / “Those who survived in hell” – a documentary coverage of the detention of people in prisons in the occupied Donbass.
Matviychuk is the winner of the Defender of Democracy Award from my OSCE, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. He is the chairman of the Center for Civil Villas, and the SOS Euromaidan coordination initiative was organized.
