Elections – Hanover – State chief Althusmann: CDU has to break new ground – politics
Hanover (dpa / lni) – CDU country chief Bernd Althusmann pays his party colleague Armin Laschet respect for the decision to propose a party congress to reorganize the CDU. “I have the greatest respect for Armin Laschet’s decision to resume his position as chairman of the CDU in Germany at a special party congress in order to restart the party in terms of personnel,” said Althusmann in a statement distributed on Thursday evening.
In a very difficult situation, the main burden of this federal election campaign lay with Laschet. “However, it would be wrong to hold him solely responsible for the poor result.” The CDU has to rearrange itself thematically. “As announced by Armin Laschet, we will break new ground.”
CDU federal chief Laschet said on Thursday in Berlin that he wants to make this proposal to the committees in the coming week. The reorganization of the CDU’s personnel – “from the chairman through the presidium to the federal executive committee” should now be tackled quickly. His goal has always been to reconcile opposites. In the federal election at the end of September, the CDU suffered a historic defeat.
