The trophy for the winners of the Billie Jean King Cup is in Prague. The Czechs have a penchant for it
The premiere year of the Billie Jean King Cup tennis will be played in Prague at the O2 arena and the O2 universe from 1 to 6 November. The Czech team will play against Germany on Monday, November 1 and against Switzerland on Thursday, November 4 in the evening section.
Captain Petr Pála presented the group Barbora Krejčíková, Markéta Vondroušová, Tereza Martincová, Kateřina Siniaková and Lucie Hradecká at Monday’s nomination press conference. “I have a good feeling from the group, the girls are determined, we have Olympic medalists there and more variants for singles and doubles,” said Pála. “It’s a strong line-up that there’s fear,” added union president Ivo Kaderka.
Czech Barbora Krejčíková is the highest ranked player in the WTA rankings (5th place), of all the nominees, the Spanish Gabrine Muguruzaová is the sixth, the Olympic winner the Swiss Belinda Benčičová the tenth.
The Czechs are the most successful team of the last decade in the competition. Since 2011, he has won six of the eleven trophies. The remaining five titles were won by Czechoslovakia. The last time they celebrated the Silver Cup was in Prague in 2018, while at that time the old system was still being played.
