In the 2021/2022 season, we will present ten performances for children and six for adults. Among other things, it will be this year’s novelty Hurvínek and an uninvited host, a performance for adults Hotel Spejbl or the mini-theater Žerýčku, hop! The director of the Spejbl and Hurvínek Theater, Denisa Kirschnerová, who continued the tradition of her parents and their predecessors, informed the journalists about this today.
Actor, set designer and puppeteer David Janošek has been the new artistic director since July. “I would like to open the theater to cooperation with authors and theater teams. It is also inspiring for the theater inside,” he said.
Fans of Spejbl and Hurvínek will see a special Santa Claus performance of Hurvínek’s Mikuláš on 27 November and a Christmas special Christmas Eve at Spejblů on 10 December. Fans of the Člobrdění s Hurvínek event will see our third sequel this season, in which they can follow in the footsteps of Josef Skupa to Prague’s Břevnov. More information about the program can be found at pages theater.
The recording of Miloš Kirschner’s Spejbl and Hurvínek / The Best is equipped with a twenty-page biographical booklet full of often unknown photographs and memories. “This is a selection of the most popular dialogues, but we also reached into our theater archive.
Puppet Spejbl celebrated its 100th birthday last year. The theater released a CD in his honor and prepared the exhibition Spejbl 100. The puppet was made in 1919, the first performance took place a year later in the autumn. The Spejbl and Hurvínek Theater therefore celebrated its 100th birthday both years. The theater was founded in 1930. Before that, the author of the first puppets, Josef Skupa, worked on the amateur scene. Over time, the theater expanded with three more characters, Mánička, the puppet and the dog Žeryk, and several voices and authors took turns with them. During their existence, the characters of Spejbl and Hurvínek were introduced in 34 countries. One of the theatre’s awards is the Thalia Award for Lifetime Achievement in Puppet Theater.
This year, Hurvínek celebrated 95 years since he first appeared on stage alongside his wise and often confused father. According to the theater, Hurvínek has several fathers. Josef Skupa introduced him to the stage and made him famous all over the country, Miloš Kirschner gave him a newer character and made him famous around the world. Martin Klásek followed the two previous ones and made Hurvínek the current boy. From 2017, Ondřej Lážnovský started alternating with him.
The Pilsen puppet actor Skupa has been performing with Spejbl since 1920, and instead of the current Kašpárek, six years later, he prepared a reduced version of himself, Hurvínek, as his partner. He first appeared in the play The House of Honor, at first he was not supposed to be Spejbl’s son, but gradually it happened. Mánička, which complements the group, is celebrating 91 years this year. In the 1970s, the creators added Mrs. Kateřina.
