the organizers of Gay Pride win their showdown, the parade will take place in the city center
The uncertainty over the holding of Gay Pride in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) has been lifted. The Pride March will take place on October 9 in the city center, despite the concerns and proposals for alternative routes from the prefecture.
Like nothing ever happened. Since the start of the week, the organizers of the Toulouse Pride March have stepped up their communication on the event: dissemination of the day’s program, presentation of the structures present and of the partners. However, uncertainties hovered for three weeks on its maintenance. They have been lifted. The Gay Pride will parade well on October 9, 2021 in downtown Toulouse.
Health pass and mask compulsory
During September, the prefecture of Haute-Garonne threatened not to allow the parade to take its usual route in the city center of Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) for reasons of “public safety and health”. The state services have proposed an alternative route located on the outer boulevards of the pink city.
A standoff was then engaged with in particular a online petition, collecting nearly 13,000 signatures as of Wednesday, October 6. A reinforced health system (compulsory health pass and wearing of a mask during the parade) and the weak mobilization of Saturday, October 2 of the health anti-pass, it seems, got the better of the prefectural reluctance.
In the regional daily, the prefecture notes that the organizers of the march have their route “despite the alerts relating to the safety of the demonstrators.“Nearly 15,000 participants are expected on Saturday, October 9, from the Place du Capitole to parade through the streets of Toulouse.
