The Art Market Budapest Fine Arts Fair opens on Thursday
After ten years, it has applied to AMB in a new location and in a slightly larger area of 7,000 square meters than before, and its visitors now have the usual strong artistic output. the Whale meets the works of artists from about 30 countries in the impressive contemporary spaces of Budapest – said Attila Ledényi, the founding director, at the press tour of the fair on Wednesday.
International and domestic interest in AMB is also growing due to travel difficulties caused by the coronavirus pandemic: exhibitors from several nations, such as Lebanon or Finland, are now represented for the first time; Argentine, Colombian and Chilean galleries have a strong strong Latin American presence this year, which will also feature all important art galleries in Hungary at the Art Market in Budapest.
As the largest contemporary art fair in the region, AMB pays special attention to the countries of the Visegrad Four (V4), so this year’s event opens with a strong Czech-Polish-Slovak focus.
A separate V4 island draws attention to some of the region’s top exhibitors. This is where the Hunt Kastner Gallery in Prague will perform with “regional stars” such as Anna Hulacová and Eva Kotatková, Einspach Fine Art & Photography is currently performing with Drozdik Orshi’s solo show, while Apteka Sztuki from Warsaw and White & Weiss Gallery from Bratislava .
The Várfok Gallery will present a large stand that pays homage to such a hundred-year-old Francoise Gilot, but also showcases the works of artists such as Franyo Aatoth, Ákos Czigány or Péter Korniss.
One of the most valuable Hungarian works of art of the fair, Imre Bak’s 1969 painting entitled Holiday, is also exhibited by the acb Gallery,
while NACO (Nagyházi Contemporary) puts the emphasis on young Hungarian artists.
The stand of the Vintage Gallery will be built around the works of Dóra Maurer, one of the most acclaimed living Hungarian artists, who recently received a solo exhibition at the Tate Modern in London, and Dobbin Mews in New York is the work of András Böröcz. The Hungarian artist, who also lives in New York, will also perform at the AMB on Friday.
The Ani Molnár Gallery (with the works of Emese Benczúr, Tamás Konok and Tamás Waliczky, among others), the Missionart (with paintings by Tamás Hencze, Ilona Keserü, László Lakner and István Nádler) and the Zsdrál Art in Balatonfüred will also be presented with an expanded stand. sight in the glass sculptures of Peter Botos.
One of the focus creators of Alte Schmiede in Vienna is Tamás Bakos, who has become a homeless street artist and an important player in the Viennese art scene, and Darwin Buffet Art Lab (Budapest) presents a selection of works by Milorad Krstic, also known from Ruben Brandt’s animated film collection.
Initio Fine Art (London / Budapest) brought perhaps the most expensive artefacts from the world-famous, several deceased Christos from the buildings he “wrapped”,
but smaller works by Christo, Sam Francis and Robert Indiana also appear in the colored material of Iago in Cluj-Napoca.
The photo section of AMB, Art Photo Budapest, is in a yellow place on a separate level. The Robert Capa Center will be presented here at a double stand, which, in addition to its namesake works, will select from the paintings of young Hungarian artists of the Futures European Photography Platform – among others, Márton Mónus and Bede Kincső.
The art fair also created a separate V4 island in the photography section, and also set up its stand at Photon Vienna in Vienna, which focuses on photos by Vladimir Birgus. An exhibition of the works of the Czech photographer will also open at the Budapest Music Center in the AMB area.
On the ground floor of the Whale Budapest you can see the New Visegrad Photography and – in cooperation with the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency – the 360 Design Budapest exhibitions, and the top level is the home of the Inside Art international art market conference.
