Mayor Hřib: Prague is set to become the center of world innovation most often

On Tuesday, October 5, 2021, the ceremonial handing over of certificates to new graduates of the prg.ai Minor program took place at the Old Town Hall. The goal of the interuniversity program is to educate a new generation of artificial intelligence (AI) professionals.
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the Faculty of Information Technology of the Czech Technical University and the Faculty of Social Sciences together with the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University with the support of the City of Prague participate in the program. The events are attended not only by representatives of the prg.ai association and individual faculties, but also by the mayor Zdeněk Hřib and the councilor for education Vít Šimral.
“Prague is set to become the center of world innovation, and prg.ai Minor is one of the pillars of how to do it. Support for students in the field of artificial intelligence development is absolutely crucial, and I am glad that Prague is helping to connect the scientific, business and student spheres in this way, ”says Mayor Zdeněk Hřib.
The syllabus of the program, which is constantly evolving in connection with the demand of students and the supply of universities, currently consists of 21 subjects arranged into six thematic blocks. In addition to a varied offer in the fields of machine learning, artificial intelligence, robotics or programming, participants have the opportunity to understand the ethical, safety and social aspects of artificial intelligence thanks to the involvement of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University.
The program thus emphasizes the development of interdisciplinarity, which is becoming key both for a responsible approach to the development and application of artificial intelligence in science and business, and for the opening of new job opportunities. Another goal of the prg.ai Minor program is to deepen cooperation between faculties and universities.
“The prg.ai Minor program is one of the flagship projects of our initiative. Thanks to the combination of four faculties from two universities, students have a unique opportunity to expand and deepen various aspects of the development and application of artificial intelligence and become part of the Prague technology scene, “says program manager Julie Kovaříková from prg.ai, initiated by the program. established.

In the three years of its existence, over 240 students applied to prg.ai Minor, of which 96 were selected to study. The first two graduates of the program received certificates last academic year, this year 13 students from all faculties received them, of which 11 came for them. on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, to the Old Town Hall, where the prg.ai association, under the auspices of the capital city of Prague, organized a ceremony.
“It was a very rewarding experience. I had the opportunity to try subjects from four different faculties, from assembling robots at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University to social issues of artificial intelligence at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, “adds Ekaterina Jaroslavceva, a graduate of the program.
Students are selected for the program once a year. The deadline for applications is announced in early March, and students can now register their interest by emailing [email protected] or via the prg.ai/minor website, where they will find further details about the program. Anyone who is a student of one of the participating faculties can apply. A committee composed of representatives involved in the faculty then assesses the benefit, technical knowledge and motivation of students.
