Injured bitch rescued from Untersberg
timeline
Mountain rescue workers from Salzburg and Bavaria rescued a bitch in distress and injured from the Untersberg. Three days ago, Pupi ran away from two hikers at the “Drachenloch” at around 1,200 meters above sea level. After days of barking that could be heard down into the valley, the rescue was still successful.
The bitch may also have crashed during her odyssey in the south walls and steep slopes of the huge massif. SHE was found on Tuesday with related injuries, but they were not life threatening.
Overcome 130 meters in altitude with rope
Mountain rescuers from Grödig (Flachgau) and the Marktschellenberg near the border in Upper Bavaria had looked for the runaway together because the day-long barking of the leavers gave some clues about their location. The two dog owners of the problem face themselves after they have to break off their desperate search and descend into the valley on the day of their disappearance due to falling darkness and the difficulty of the terrain.
Immediately to the vet in the valley
When the bitch was located three days later, the mountain rescuers descended and stowed her – in terms of breathing perfect – in a rucksack. Then “Pupi” – who remained astonishingly calm and trusting – was roped up from the steep and impassable terrain to a climb of more than 130 meters and a little later brought down to the valley.
The owners thanked the mountain rescuers and consulted a veterinarian who cared for those who died. The mission lasted around five hours.
