Ukraine has suspended construction of six new hydropower plants on the Dniester due to economic inexpediency. About it in comments to the Moldovan edition News editor story Deputy Head of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Mykhailo Khorev.
“At the present stage of construction of new hydropower plants is considered economically impractical,” he explained.
The official added that he has now decided to develop old hydraulic units.
“Plans were planned to build several more hydropower plants in Ukraine, but a detailed study showed that neither ecologically nor economically it is justified,” Khorev said.
The deputy also adds that he meets with working groups together with the Moldovan-Ukrainian commission, which hold regular meetings.
“A new meeting of the joint commission is scheduled for the end of October, at which I discussed urgent issues. We have already talked on the sidelines of the conferences with your Minister, Ms. Katarajiu (Minister of the Environment Moldova Juliana Cantardjiou – Glavkom.), and outlined further plans. There are intentions to visit hydropower facilities on the territory of Ukraine, it will be satisfied without any problems. We are now in the state of an absolute designer, “Khorev said.
At the same time, the Minister of Environment Juliana Cantarciu noted that Moldova proposes the introduction of a tripartite agreement between Ukraine, Moldova and Romania on cooperation in transboundary waters.
According to Glavkom, Chisinau insists on the European risk assessment used with the construction of a new Ukrainian hydroelectric power plant on the Dniester.
