“I testify so that it will be known and that it will not happen again. »Arthur *, a resident of Rouen (Seine-Maritime), was violently assaulted during the night of Saturday 2 to Sunday 3 October 2021. To this ordeal was added that of his stay at the CHU de Rouen (Seine-Maritime).
He claims to have experienced a chilling care, but also mockery, including some homophobic from a caregiver. He was planning to file a complaint against him on Monday.
“He was completely crazy”
Arthur works in the restaurant business. He leaves his service around one in the morning this Friday and joins his friends for a drink in a bar. “I haven’t had just one drink,” he says. I was not drunk. I left alone with my bike, and on the road I was hungry. He goes to a kebab on rue Saint-Hilaire where the atmosphere seems tense.
He tells of an altercation between a customer and the man at the cash register. He doesn’t get involved at first. “At one point I hear, ‘I’m going to blow your ass!’ and insults. He decides to intervene “peacefully”, trying to calm the individual.
The latter then grabbed him by his scarf, closed with a sliding knot. He pulls him out, insulting him violently and starts punching him in the face. “He was completely crazy. It lasted a little less than a minute. I was suffocating. People are negotiating to separate us. He then moved away, the time that his attacker, “a young man in his twenties,” went away in a car.
“It is not possible to receive someone victim of aggression and to tell him that”
Arthur returns to the kebab where he calls the police. “People take care of me a bit, but the kebab has to close at 2 am. At 2:30 am, the police do not arrive. I decide to go to the hospital. He later files a complaint online. He is shocked. His clothes are torn. The pressure is falling. He is crying.
He addresses the person at the reception asking for help. “His first words were, ‘Wait a minute, can’t you see I’m busy?’ She didn’t even look at me. At that moment, he bursts into tears. A caregiver arrives. “He infantilizes me. He tells me there is no point in collapsing and explains again that his colleague is busy. “
Arthur says he first felt the need to justify himself. “I imagine that on Friday evening, part of the patient population is a bit special…” He explains again having been assaulted and not being alcoholic. Finally, he resigns himself to answering only yes or no. “He gave me two Doliprane and put me in a waiting room. He hears laughter then, but doesn’t pay too much attention.
“I felt my eye swell, so I got up to ask for ice cream. I understood that the caregiver was laughing at me. He imitates me. I hear: ‘He was sobbing like a pedal’. I am homosexual. Suffice to say that this kind of talk hurts. “
An internal procedure
He decides to confront the group. “I said, ‘I just got attacked. I hear you are laughing at me. It’s okay, but do you have any ice cream for my eye? ‘ He replied: ‘What flavor is ice cream?’ Distressed, he returned to the waiting room where another caregiver came to take care of him.
He was examined by several doctors. “No one wanted to tell me the name of this caregiver. It was the omerta. “He then left home,” without medication, go to Cada (specialized reception center for assaults, Editor’s note) or stoppage of work. The next day, he went to a nursing home. “The doctor arrested me for seven days. I have an appointment at Cada on Thursday. My right eye swelled up. I can’t see through it anymore. I have back pain, marks on my neck. “
He contacted the director of patient relations to complain, after which he recounted his experience in an official letter. This procedure triggers “an internal instruction”, indicates the CHU. “A response is then received from the injured patient. If the answer is not satisfactory, we will suggest that he meet our medical mediators and caregivers. If after that the situation is not transmitted, we know him to know his legal recourse. If the facts are proven, sanctions are possible. “
Arthur intends to go to the end of his process with this testimony and a complaint, does not want it to remain “internally”. “The goal is that people who arrive in the future for assault do not experience it again. Imagine a woman being raped. The first words she hears can’t be, ‘Can’t you see I’m busy?’ “
