Annecy, Avignon, Grenoble, Valence … which are the fastest lines?
On September 27, the TGV celebrated its fortieth anniversary. Commissioned in 1981, it then quickly entered the stations of our departments: in 1982 in Avignon, Chambéry and Valence, in 1983 in Annecy and in 1985 in Grenoble.
Today more than 130 cities are served by a high-speed train line (TGV or Ouigo), but they are not all equal in terms of speed. If the TGV set its record (574.8 km / h) on April 3, 2007, it does not exceed 320 km / h in commercial service. Speed, in addition, which it can only achieve on certain specially designed sections of the different lines.
By analyzing the distance to Paris, the minimum journey time and any stops in other stations at the start of October 2021, we calculated the average speed of each line. And some can appear very slow …
Only 17 lines have an average speed above 200 km / h. In first position, the Bordeaux-Paris : by covering 497 kilometers in 2 hours and 5 minutes, the TGV travels at 238.6 km / h on this route. The podium is completed by trains departing from the station of Lorraine TGV (226.2 km / h) and that of Poitiers (221.8). In sixth place, on Find the route ofAvignon-TGV to Paris (215.4 km / h) and in tenth position that of Valence-TGV to the capital (211.3 km / h).
The other high-speed trains leaving from stations in our departments towards Paris are located much further away: Montelimar is 40th with an average speed of 168.1 km / h (the train stops at Valence and Lyon-Saint-Exupéry), Grenoble 50th (160.6 km / h), Orange 52nd (159.6 km / h) and Chambéry-Challes-les-Eaux 53rd (158.6 km / h).
Below 150 km / h, we find high-speed trains departing from Bellegarde (148.2 km / h),Aix-les-Bains-Le Revard (146.2 km / h), Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne (135.2 km / h), Modane (128.4 km / h) andAnnecy (116.2 km / h). From the Haute-Savoie prefecture, the train has only 432 kilometers to cover but it stops 3 minutes in Aix-Les-Bains, 11 minutes in Chambéry and 3 minutes in Mâcon. This explains the very long journey time (3 hours 43 minutes) and its very slow speed.
Regarding our departments, other existing seasonal lines (Albertville, Cluses, Évian-les-Bains…) but it is not currently used.
And among the journeys to Paris consulted at the beginning of October, two TGV lines are below 100 km / h and close this classification: from Sedan (94.5 km / h) and Boulogne-sur-Mer (87.3 km / h).
