A gift that fell from the sky. As the report France-Blue, the small town of Caudry (North), had the nice surprise to inherit a… Monegasque apartment. This property indeed belonged to Louis Sandras. Described as a native of the country, he was the husband of the famous 1930s seamstress Héléna Beuvilain. Died in 1985, the man had bequeathed his apartment in Monaco to the small town, but in the meantime, it was his second wife who had the usufruct of the property.
Except that this one died this summer, explain our colleagues. There was therefore only one heir: the town of Caudry. During a meeting between the notary and the mayor of the town, the latter was surprised to discover the value of the gift. Not 500,000, 700,000 or a million euros… the Monegasque apartment is estimated at a minimum of 7.5 million euros. Without counting, specify our colleagues, the valuable furniture inside which will be returned.

A quarter of the municipality’s budget
“It’s really a beautiful gift, a very beautiful gift”, hardly conceals Frédéric Bricout, the city councilor. Especially since Louis Sandras had already worked for Caudry in the past. Passionate about football, he had been president of the city club before leaving for Paris and Monaco, and had brought him up to the professional level. Once this level had been reached, he had a new stadium built which today bears his name, specifies France Bleu.
With these new funds, the town hall will have to respect the last wishes of the man who died more than 35 years ago, namely to finance a new nursing home and to organize a football tournament every year with the four best clubs in the district. A nice gift from this man close to the main family, who could be rewarded with a statue, will unveil the mayor. These 7.5 million euros still represent a quarter of Caudry’s budget.
