It is a beautiful habit that jazz lovers take in Haute-Garonne in the fall. From 6 to 17 October 2021, the Jazz sur son 31 festival celebrates its 35e edition and returns everywhere on the territory. ” 59 concerts, 37 of which are free, in about twenty municipalities of the department, build bridges between the different forms of jazz and the territories ”, enthuses Georges Méric, president of the PS of the Haute-Garonne Departmental Council.
A tribute to Benoît Mardon at the opening
On Wednesday October 6, the opening night, which will take place at the Pavillon République, will see the the Fusion Jazz Project, which will pay tribute to a Toulouse artist who suddenly died this summer, Benoît Mardon. The other group on the bill for this inaugural evening will be the Belmondo Quintet.
On Thursday, October 7, it’s time for the multi-card Antoine Joseph, still in the Pavilion located in the middle of the courtyard. On October 16, the Keyon Harrold Quintet met on stage a seasoned trumpeter who has worked with the greatest artists in the world such as Anthony Hamilton, Beyoncé, Jay-Z or Mary J. Blige. The Republic Pavilion will host around ten concerts, both by French artists and big names in soul music.
The Halle aux Grains and its exceptional acoustics will be there with the hall of Kenny Garrette Quintet, Sunday 10 October.
In Toulouse and everywhere in Haute-Garonne
The strength of Jazz on its 31st is its eclecticism but also its presence everywhere in Haute-Garonne, in Toulouse and in the countryside. As part of Scène 31, which offers concerts by internationally renowned artists in partnership with various performance venues and cultural venues in the Toulouse area, we can applaud Nesrine at the Escale de Tournefeuille (October 7), Dhafer Youssef at Muret (October 9), Sensitive quilt at the Bikini (October 12) or the people of Barcelona from “Les Excitations” (October 15 at the Aria de Cornebarrieu).
Also as part of the “in”, artists from Toulouse and the region will be in the spotlight during an evening at the Espace Job (Sunday, October 17) with the Grand regional jazz orchestra, designed since 2017 as a project support for the professionalization of young jazz musicians in Occitania. In partnership with Music’Halle.
The “off”, actions towards the general public
Finally, the festival “off” offers around twenty actions intended for the general public. Example on Saturday, October 9 in the salons of the Departmental Council with a DIY workshop, in which you can initiate yourself to the practice of electronic music.
In 2019, the edition before the Covid, Jazz sur son 31 had more than 21,000 spectators.
