Social re-entry in Toulouse: unions representing the street
Salaries, hiring, working conditions … with the first post-Covid demonstration this Tuesday, October 5, in Toulouse, the unions are putting social issues back in the spotlight.
Wages, purchasing power, working conditions, unemployment insurance and pension reforms … long relegated to the background behind the long health crisis, social demands are back on Tuesday, October 5 with the first major demonstration interprofessional post-Covid. On the occasion of a national strike, declined in Toulouse with a demonstration at 10:30 am on the boulevards from Arnaud-Bernard (and at 2:30 pm in Saint-Gaudens, place Jean-Jaurès), the unions resume the street. And with seven months of the presidential election, they will not give up quickly. “It is not a ritual, a social re-entry and then come back home,” warns Cédric Caubère, secretary general of the CGT de la Haute-Garonne. “This is a warning to future rulers,” says clearly Serge Cambou, his counterpart in Force Ouvrière.
For the occasion, the unions gathered. The traditional trio CGT, FSU and Solidaires joined FO as well as several youth organizations.
By the way, Cédric Caubère, who knows that the unions have faced competition from other types of mobilizations, such as the yellow vests of roundabouts and boulevards, wants to send a message to businesses: “We must not remain isolated, resign on his side. The solution is collective. “
Unemployment insurance
For the CGT, increasing wages, purchasing power and improving working conditions “by hiring”, are the priority of this return after employees have given a lot. “For the financial markets, the crisis is behind. For employees, the economic crisis, they are in the middle of it. “Cédric Caubère thus denounces a double standard between companies helped” without conditions of hiring and salary increase “and employees” who have had no return for their efforts “.
Serge Cambou is more directly concerned with the reform of unemployment insurance which entered into force on October 1. If the government’s objective is “to encourage work” by fighting against the proliferation of court contracts for the benefit of proper hiring, the reform of the calculation of compensation will lead to a decrease in benefit recipients. Inadmissible for the unions, some of which have brought swords to the Council of State. Among Airbus subcontractors, for example, “things hit very hard,” FO No. 1 says. They will be directly affected. “
Civil servants, industrial employees, teachers or “uberized” delivery men (who will stop work at 7 pm)… must be present in the procession to get their message across. This Monday, at the call of some unions, Tisséo bus drivers kicked off.
The social and medico-social sector meets on Wednesday
The staff of the social and medico-social sectors, will join the presidents, members of the boards of directors and directors of the managing associations, will meet on Wednesday October 6, at 10 am, square De-Gaulle, in Toulouse. In June, the representatives of these sectors, which were strategic during the health crisis, had already mobilized. They consider themselves to be “the forgotten ones of the Ségur de la santé” which has enabled the revaluation of the salaries of caregivers. Worse, they write, “the Ségur de la santé has exacerbated the difficulties of our organizations. “” We envision that finally the necessary public authorities release the funds to restore a just and equitable situation. “
