Perimeter for alcohol ban in the city of Brussels is being expanded… (Brussels)
The perimeter for the alcohol ban in the center of the city of Brussels will be extended by a few streets. That decision was taken on Monday at the Brussels city council. The new perimeter will certainly apply for a period of one year.

The current alcohol ban perimeter includes the entire pedestrian zone in Brussels, but also a large part of the hypercentre. The zones within the intermediate corner and around the metro stations Rogier, IJzer and Sint-Katelijne also five finals up to the perimeter. The entire Dansaertstraat, the Nieuwe Graanmarkt and its basketball court, the Moutstraat, the Sleutelstraat, the Leon Lepagestraat, part of the Papenvest and the Nieuwpoortlaan are still being added to this.
“The legal department has notified 702 files since the regulation in 2020. Many Covid PVs also started,” Mayor Philippe Close.
The opposition parties MR and cdH believe that there is too little control and wonder whether the measure will help traders move forward. The PVDA can then be told that the expansion does not solve much and that, as stated in the council decision, “the problems are moving beyond the perimeter of the weather regulations”. For example, people who just want to eat a packet of fries on the street with a beer are punished, they think.
Mayor Close points out that tidiness has improved, but: “By making it clear that we also have to work,” he says. “Night shops will also be sensitized not to sell alcohol to people who are already drunk,” Close concludes.
