Palazzo della Provincia di Pisa, when will we see it unpacked again? – The Arno.it
– Maurizio Ficeli –
Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, in the heart of Pisa, between the central station and Corso Italia, certainly a beautiful sight with the buildings of the Stock Exchange, the Post Office and the Province. And it is this last building that we wish to talk about, not before making some history.
The Province was once based in two buildings in Piazza dei Cavalieri, purchased by the State Property. In the Fascist period, to give more space to universities, it was decided to build a new office in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, near the railway station, in front of the post office building. The building should have had the same architectural characteristics. The final project was approved on December 28, 1933 and the new headquarters were built in 1937. The official inauguration took place the following year. The historical documentation available concerning the construction studies and subsequently those of the reconstruction in the immediate postwar period.
For some time now, the building has been caged by imposing scaffolding, and it is precisely for this reason that we went to have a look to see the state of the works. Unfortunately, to our regret, we found that there was no team of workers to work and on the ground, between the arcades and the scaffolding, we found a degraded state in the form of litter, bottles, cigarette butts and other waste. Even the pavement of the portico of this important building varies on the ground, as, thanks to the darkness, this area lends itself as a refuge for some people.
We passed by on the morning of Thursday 23 September 2021 and took some photos to document the situation. Two months ago, specifying in early August, the president of the province of Pisa Massimiliano Angori had announced in the local press the green light for the restoration of the Provincial Administration Building in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, but alas, as we have been able to verify, currently everything is still.
Hoping for a prompt resumption of work, ask those responsible for clarification regarding the future of this important building with its ancient splendor, which once returned free from the scaffolding would restore luster to such a central and important square in the city of the Tower.
