The proposals made by the management of the Clinique de L’Union were not enough to calm the anger of midwives. Their movement, on the sidelines of the national one announced Thursday, continues. The maternity hospital therefore remains closed.
They will not lower the bras. On strike since Saturday, the midwives of the Clinique de L’Union, Groupe Ramsay, have chosen to extend their movement. Accompanied by the South Social Health union, eleven professionals working in this maternity are now awaiting a new meeting with their management “in order to obtain progress on several points”. The midwives demand “a revaluation of basic salaries with a much higher alignment with those of the public, a perennial block premium higher than that of nurses, a day and night call premium, the creation of permanent positions. … ”
They also specify that their action “is not linked to the national strike movement announced for Thursday. We are protesting against the working conditions to which we have been warning for a long time at the Clinique de L’Union precisely. We are asking for staffing because it is a question of the safety of mothers who come to the clinic and that of the staff. For a year, we have been understaffed. We are still not heard in this direction. The only proposal made is a bonus of 50 € gross for night guards, a hiring bonus, a bonus for sponsoring new midwives. This is far from our demands, especially since we have the lowest salaries in Occitania. This is also why, in our opinion, few young women want to work here. In the public sector, they earn more than € 300 more per month ”, insist the midwives in the same voice.
The management, for its part, is very embarrassed by this movement. She was confronted with what any establishment dreads: a maternity hospital without midwives. A dozen mothers were therefore transferred to establishments in Toulouse.
To this day, the maternity unit is still closed because there is no requisitioned staff. “They haven’t received a requisition so they don’t move! “Insists the South Social Health union which counts” on a dialogue with the management as soon as possible “. This one would seem to want it too. Fabrice Derbias, director of the clinic said “he is in the process of setting up a meeting with the union representatives. We have already made a series of proposals. And the requisitions have indeed gone to the homes of midwives… ”At the Union Clinic, the maternity activity represents around 900 admissions per year.
