Big fear on the Canal du Midi. On the morning of Monday, October 4, 2021, an explosion occurred in a barge parked near the Mange Pommes Bridge, a Ramonville-Saint-Agne, near Toulouse.
Two minor injuries
The Haute-Garonne firefighters were alerted around 10:45 am The gendarmerie and a team from the Voies Navigables de France (VNF) were also dispatched to the scene.
In this accident, two people were slightly injured. The first victim, a woman, was evacuated in relative urgency to the Purpan hospital center. A man, also in relative emergency, was transported to the Croix du Sud clinic, in Quint-Fonsegrives (Haute-Garonne).
A gas cylinder causing the damage?
The origin of the incident could find its explanation in the explosion of a carboy, located in this barge equipped with gas heating.
According to the departmental fire and rescue operational center (Codis), a reconnaissance was carried out on the hull of the boat. No waterway was identified. The risk of pollution is also eliminated.
