To save on valuable resources, reduce the environmental footprint and extend the IT lifecycle, Flex IT and HP Netherlands are introducing the ‘HP-approved selection by Flex IT-line’. This is a selection of laptops, desktop PCs and displays that are being revitalized to last as long as possible. The Dutch Flex IT is the first worldwide distribution partner to bring this circular initiative to the market together with HP Netherlands. The parties want to increase confidence in circular IT and consistently extend the lifespan of IT by several years.
Companies are making more demands on the manner in which their suppliers are used. For example, sustainability is an important part of tenders and is only expected to increase. Yet many companies look at the sustainability of the IT equipment they use themselves, precisely because there is still a lot of profit to be made. After all, by using hardware, the costs decrease longer and the carbon footprint. Organizations do not always use the full lifespan of their hardware, which can sometimes be up to ten years. Also, re-offering used hardware is still not an obvious choice. Choices from this circular approach that together make a substantial contribution to reducing the carbon footprint.
HP and Flex IT Hardware with HP Approved Selection the premium quality of circular IT hardware. “With the HP Approved Selection, we are creating a circular brand that removes all uncertainties about refurbished products,” says Leon Timmermans, CEO of Flex IT. “We do this by thoroughly testing and revitalizing the hardware, both cosmetically and functionally. HP and Microsoft monitor the entire process. This way we can expect the best possible user experiences from HP products. In addition, the HP Approved Selection models come with a two-year warranty as standard and the option to extend it for another year. They also do not have to purchase an additional Windows 10 license, which is often the case when purchasing refurbished products. Flex IT’s circular partners have a standard three-year warranty. The movement that gives HP its name marks another important step towards a circular IT.”
The production of IT equipment has a significant impact on the environment. That is why Stientje van Veldhoven has signed a Dutch initiative. This is one step, but to really increase the waste mountain of discarded computers, laptops and smartphones, to be able to extend their lifespan. Now the lifespan of IT hardware only lasts three to five years, resulting in the annual IT waste mountain continues to pile up. According to Flex IT, the key lies in extending this life cycle to at least five to ten years, thereby reducing the burden on the environment and contributing to the climate objectives of the climate targets.
says Hjalmar van Veen, Head of Commercial & Retail Channel at HP. “IDC ranked us first in the Sustainability Index last month. The HP Approved Selection by Flex IT track record excellently meets our goals of extending the life of our products while preserving quality and warranties. Together with Flex IT, we can take an important step towards greater sustainability here, in collaboration with our partners and customers.”
‘No excuses, go circular’
“Thanks to our collaboration with an ongoing IT giant like HP, there are no longer any reasons for companies that want to work on sustainability not to think about circular IT,” continues Leon Timmermans. “This choice by HP really marks another step towards sustainable IT. HP guarantees quality and has played a pioneering role in recent years when it comes to the sustainable nature of IT hardware. HP Approved Selection by Flex IT demonstrates that circular products can be of high quality. In other words: ‘No excuses, go circular’.”
