Brno figure skaters have fulfilled their childhood dream, they will present themselves at the Olympics Sport | Brněnská Drbna
At the Olympic Games (OH) in Beijing in 2022, the Czech Republic will have a figure skating representation in all four categories, and three of them will be filled by Brno natives. In addition to Michal Březina and his sister Eliška Březinová, the dancing couple Natálie and Filip Taschler also made it to the Olympic qualification. A total of four Brno residents will thus intervene in the fight for precious metals under five circles. At the same time, for the first time in history, the Czechia will strive for medals in a team competition.
A child’s dream come true
Siblings Natálie Taschlerová AND Filip Taschler recently fought their way to the Olympics from the qualifying race in Oberstdorf. Their journey has been difficult, but it has a happy ending. “I already wrote in my diary that I want to be at the Olympics once,” reports a 22-year-old figure skater, whose words his sister nods. Athletes are not spoiled by the fact that they will race in China in front of an empty auditorium. “We are happy to be able to race and we are looking forward to meeting all the athletes, we have to benefit as much as possible from it. We are excited and ready to work. It’s just great, “ says nineteen-year-old Taschler.
A figure skating couple is getting ready in Italy
In the Czech Republic, the conditions for the preparation of top dancing couples are insufficient. Not only qualified coaches are missing, but above all time and space for preparation. The ice rink is filled with hockey practice every day and there are only a few hours left for figure skating. “In tanks, we need a large number of hours on the ice, at the same time we must have enough space so that we do not collide. Unfortunately, our hockey players are preferred, so we can’t prepare well here, “ notes figure skater. The young Czech couple therefore trains mainly in Egni near Bolzano, Italy, under the supervision of the best Italian coaches, where they train for up to five hours a day on the ice. “Italy is now our second home. We will look to the Czech Republic so maybe for Christmas, “ describes Taschler, who spends all his free time with his sister on and off the ice.
Video call training
Another Brno native will also present herself in Beijing under five circles. For the first time in care, at the top sporting event, the 25-year-old performed in the solo category Eliška Březinová, which qualified for the Olympic Games from the March world championship. She combines her sports combination with study, so she doesn’t have much time left for training. Despite the demanding program, he devotes several hours a day to training on the ice and in the gym.
The competitor is preparing for the upcoming Olympic Games at home in Brno under the guidance of her father, at the same time she is cooperating with the foreign coach and former world figure skater Jozef Sabovčík, who oversees everything from America. “We have trainings via video calls, or we arrange by phone. We will discuss what I am doing well and what is not. There is no other option, because I will not get to America, “ described by Březinová.
Olympic premiere
For both Březinová and the sibling dancing couple, these Olympics will be the first to be protected. Their goals are therefore similar. Above all, enjoy this participation in the largest sporting event, gain new experience and show the best possible performances. They do not have medal ambitions yet. They consider the qualification itself and the possibilities of racing in a team competition to be a great success. In addition to Březinová and Taschler, at the Olympics, spectators will also see Michal Březina and the sports couple Žuková and Bidař.
