“Being a retail that puts food into circulation on a daily basis throughout the supply chain, up to the final consumer, for us, combating food waste is more than a priority, it is a responsibility that we assume. In addition to all the solutions we have implemented in our business operations, we are involved and support initiative that can generate changes for the better in the field of food risks, at the level of society. We are partners of the Food Bank since the testing phase in the Republic of Moldova and we consider this solution as an effective one in the issue of food risks. In this way, we launch an invitation to the private sector to join this project.” REFERRED Cristina Aramă, PR Manager Kaufland.
Between March and August 2021, within the partnership of the Food Bank and Kaufland Moldova, it was possible to recover over 32,505 kg of food products, worth 900,000 MDL. “Kaufland Moldova remains the largest donor retailer at the Food Bank and a major promoter of the waste prevention approach. Results obtained together, after a short period with a multiplier effect: because, they convinced other food processors to become donors to the Bank. We will continue this broad process, building a model for reducing risks and hunger in Moldova “, mentioned Igor Belei, President of the Food Bank.
At the same time, throughout the year, especially during periods of greater need in disadvantaged communities, Kaufland has been involved in a number of additional product collection and donation actions. During these events, the company also involved customers, in supporting people in need, but also in raising awareness of the problem of food waste and its effects.
In September 2020, Kaufland Moldova became the first retailer within the Food Bank, which has taken on the responsibility of being a sustainable and reliable partner of the new project.
