Yong Yello plays home match win with brilliance @ Trix Antwerp (★★★★)
Sometimes you just know you’re going to have a wonderful evening. That feeling came over on Saturday evening on the way to a sold-out Trix. Before Yong Yello and band even played a note, we knew this was going to be a four star review. That makes the undersigned a biased recent Yong Yello a very good artist.
Yong Yello has not had it easy. “I was always a big breeder to a great extent,” Yong Yello told us during an interview to the beginning of the release of his debut record Marcel & The Magnetism Of De Goot. The producer, who previously worked for Glints and Noémie Wolfs, poured his story full of misery into an album. On Saturday evening he placed the record in front of a sold-out Trix Club.
Accompanied by his full band, including drums, synths and even trumpet, Yong Yello was on stage at the Club. Immediately the crowd was wildly enthusiastic. The dancing legs were no longer necessary. Yong Yello was highly regarded by the audience and rightly so. Yello custom songs like In Amsterdam and super mario with great attention to detail to a live setting. The almost perfect studio production sounds even more intense, stronger and better live.
Though that was true for all songs. Going from Marcel, Circle and De Smet until the downright aggressive Castle in the air. Yello came, saw and conquered. Although there were no doubters in the room. This is how sing-alongs testified madness and London Bridge. A perfectly understood haze lasting one hour. Much to the regret of the audience and Yello himself: “I only made one record, so we’re almost out of songs,” he joked. Luckily there was still hit When You Sleep. The song was sung along loudly, later Yello disappeared from the stage.
Fortunately there was still time for a bis number. We got a second time London Bridge to hear. Satisfactory on the record, it is fatal for main character Marcel on “the London Bridge on the docks”Fortunately for Yong Yello this is not the case. He has a bright future ahead. It makes for one of the better Belgian live experiences of the moment. He may have said he didn’t like football, but it was a brilliantly won home match for the Antwerp player.
