Notice to expectant mothers who had planned to give birth at Union clinic, located in the town of Saint-Jean (Haute-Garonne), at the gates of Toulouse. The Regional Health Agency (ARS) Occitanie announces this Sunday, October 3, 2021 at midday the “temporary closure of the Union maternity hospital”.
Midwives on strike
The Union clinic is a private establishment, a member of the Ramsay group. According to the ARS, it is a strike movement “without notice” of the midwives of the establishment which causes this unexpected closure.
“Following a strike movement without warning from the midwives of the Union Clinic in Haute-Garonne, the maternity ward of this clinic is no longer able to accommodate parturients (women who give birth, editor’s note)” .
Already last weekend, midwives had started in France a movement of several days. They claim a salary increase, but also a real recognition of their work, and their status.
“Do not surrender” in this maternity ward
In an emergency, the ARS therefore advises future mothers of Haute-Garonne and neighboring departments “not to go spontaneously to this establishment and to contact the 15 ″, who will refer them to the maternity ward of another establishment where they will be taken care of.
