Portugal was too close: King Juan Carlos of Spain says about exile in new book – Ferver
When he left Spain for exile, Juan Carlos was about to come to Portugal (it was his first choice), but our country “was too close”. This is revealed by the emeritus king himself in the book ‘Mon roí dechu’ (‘My deposed king’), by the writer Laurence Debray, which will be published in France. In it, Juan Carlos inclined that it was the family that didn’t want him around. “They asked me to go further,” he says. “Here I’m not bothering the crown.” About a possible return to Spain, the former king does not satisfy a curiosity: “I have no idea. Some are very happy that I have left.”
The book says that Juan Carlos has his back turned to his son, the current King of Spain, Filipe VI, and that he didn’t even call him on January 5th, when he celebrated 83 years of age. However, to the newspaper ‘El Mundo’, Juan Carlos has already denied this passage in the book, guaranteeing that his son did make a phone call to him. “It was a misinterpretation” by the author, she explained.
The work also reveals everything about the new life of Juan Carlos, in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, where he is accompanied by 4 bodyguards and a Filipino couple who take care of themselves. The former king gets up at seven in the morning, reads the newspapers on his tablet, does gymnastics and swimming.
