Portugal: Liga Operária Católica conference conference «working and being poor is not worthy»

In a note sent to the ECCLESIA Agency, the LOC / MTC informs that the conference will have as speakers the director of the International Labor Organization Lisbon (ILO), Mafalda Troncho, and the president of the Portuguese Confederation of Volunteering, Eugénio Fonseca.
In the videoconference ‘Working and being poor is not dignified’, participants will also hear national and two international testimonies, four in total, and have an opportunity for debate.
To participate in this initiative on the International Day for Decent Work 2021 it is necessary online application, to receive the link to the event on the Zoom platform, and the Liga Operária Católica Portugal informs that there is a limit of participants.
To mark this day, the World Movement of Christian Workers (MMTC) prepares a message which warns of the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, which created a “new generation of poverty and malaise due to debt”, has widened the differences between paid, and still a prayer.
The LOC / MTC is a national movement, which had its origins in the first Catholic Workers’ Circles, starting in 1912.
In 1936, with the creation of the Portuguese Catholic Action, it became the Catholic Worker League, representing the adult working class of the working environment.
LOC / MTC was born from the merger of two Movements, LOC Feminina, founded in Portugal on May 5, 1936, and LOC Masculina, founded on December 12 of the same year.
